Korean Grill Kensington review

Interesting fact, I worked at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel a long time ago. It was brief. Then I returned to the area to work for The Bentley Hotel, which at the time was a Kempinski property – so I am familiar with the area. I commuted from Caledonian Road to this postcode, daily. Yep, a mission of a journey! So it was a breeze heading over here from my new base near Liverpool Street on the circle line. I will be honest, I seldom go south west of Old Street. Everything I need is in the East, even Korean food. But I am glad I took this little trip.

The façade is how you would expect it, being part of a concrete hotel. Lacking in unique architectural or cultural draw, it would be easy to miss this gem. Once inside, it is stylish, cute and smaller than I thought. I am a fan of the tables next to the Chef station as watching the guys work is the kind of theatre that folk like.

We were treated to the Chef’s Feast at £65pp, starting with Sang Cha Lim which was a mix of seasonal ‘starters’ from Bibum noodles, jeon, japchae, chilli, yuzu salad, to the infamous kimchi and more. Then it was various meats for the grill which was initially cooked up by a Chef/Server that looked like actor and bestie to BTS’s V, Choi Woo-Shik; that should be enough for you to visit.

The meats included Tiger prawns, aged rib eye, king kalbi and a cut of the day. We also had some steamed rice with soup.

All of the food was tasty and the mastery of the skeleton staff working the room, which became full, was a testament to their ability to own the space and know what exactly is going on at all times. They were on it!

For drinks, we had a Soju cocktail, because it would be rude not to. I am not a dessert person and I was in a hurry to get home to my doggy, which by the way, the place is dog-friendly. Hello, you should be shouting about that. The amount of exposure that little titbit can bring, should be heavily tapped into.

Overall, not a daily spot, but I would say a date night or special occasion drop by.
