Globe Town Mural unveiled in Whitechapel
Bethnal Green gets a splash of colour this summer as Shiraz Bayjoo, a Mauritanian artist living in London, erected his huge new mural in Globe Town celebrating the cultural diversity of the area.
The artwork, in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery, includes the East London Suffragettes, the Atlab Ali protest, the Bethnal Green Mulberry Tree, plus many more references to local history.
Through this archival exploration of memory and culture, Bayjoo highlights the area’s legacy as a refuge for countless generations escaping political persecution.
