Philharmonia Orchestra announces Soumik Datta as Artist in Residence for the 2023/24 season

Dubbed ‘one of the biggest new music talents in Britain’ by Vogue, Soumik Datta has been announced as the Philharmonia’s next Artist in Residence.

Drawing from both classical Western and South Asian influences, his work is expected to explore themes relating to refugees, diaspora, and social and racial inequality.

His most recent project, Hope Notes, co-produced by the Southbank Centre weaves firsthand stories of refugee mental health and displacement with Sarod, strings, and electronica.

Datta’s other highlights include performing at Glastonbury Festival, the BBC proms, and the Royal Albert Hall.

The visionary musician and sarod virtuoso also runs Soumik Datta Arts, a charity focused on promoting diversity in the arts.
