NONDEF | CD SOUNDS: RUBY’S TOP 10 of 2022
My top 10, filtered from my top 100 from a whole heap of 2022 song of the year lists in mags, critics, nerdy net communities across the world, and checked in with AOTY’s aggregator. It took a while to land on these, but I’m pretty confident that if you dig my ting you’ll dig these too. I even went the extra mile and clumsily grabbed incorrect info and read out irrelevant bits of wiki to save you the bother.
There’s a strong showing from Canada with Lisa LeBlanc’s displaced disco, TikTok-grown pop from Devon Cole and Cola’s galloping Strokes-y post punk. The usual wannabe producer geek-outs with desperate hip hop high hats on Ice Spice’s staccato Munch, jacking snare climbs on Bing Bong the mystical winding wining soca of Tek Jam. And audio escapes to Ghanaian drill with Kwaku the Traveller (“who never f**ked up? Hands in the air. No hands?”) and Sadurn’s so-sad-you-feel-better indie folk.
Tell you what, here’s the top ten list (with the sneaky intro addition). I’d love to know where you think that I goofed. And if you fancied listening to the whole 100 shortlist – boy, you’re got heart – it’s here.
Holler at Ruby: Linkedin for business, Twitter for rants, Instagram for sketches.
Here are all of the CD Sounds shows. When I update. Soon, promise.
