Making Modernism at the Royal Academy

What is Modernism? Where did it come from? And why does it involve so few women? These questions will be answered at the Royal Academy’s upcoming exhibition titled Making Modernism.

Opening November 12, the groundbreaking exhibition seeks to reframe the crucial (and relatively unknown) contribution of female artists to the identity of German Modernism in the early 20th century.

Making Modernism will highlight the work of Paula Modersohn-Becker, Käthe Kollwitz, Gabriele Münter and Marianne Werefkin, explored through themes like the female body, childhood, and maternal experience.

Come see a classic genre in a new light. Making Modernism opens at the Royal Academy on November 12, 2022 and runs until February 12 2023. Find out more about the artists and pre-book your tickets here.
