Mac & Wild summer menu review
For a divinely delish summer soiree, chortle across to Mac & Wild in Devonshire Square, on the fringe of our Spitalfields borders, while salubrious enough to nestle comfortably in the City.
Its quite spacious compared to the Great Titchfield branch, but still very cosy and furnished and decorated with success shots of highland shoots, and foraging excursions.
Cocktail of the month the Highland Summer Cup – whisky, Pims and strawberries was delicate and smokey while the Irn Bru Daiquiri was quickly consumed by my thirsty date.
For starters the Haggis Pops are a must – even as an almost veggie I still had to try one while going for the Fish Bites and homemade tartare sauce & dill.
The fish theme continued with Steamed Scottish Mussels served in an Arbroath smokie skink – smokies, shallots, white wine, parsley & crusty bread. It’s a meal within a meal as you’re left with enough sauce and plenty of bread to mop it up with at the end, as if having a soup starter mid way through your mains.
The Wester Ross Salmon Salad with Jersey Royals, broad beans, mint and seasonal leaves had all kinds of surprises and was delicately filling enough, for a hot summers night.
With a bottle of nicely chilled white Picpoul de Pinet ‘Les Courtelles’ the conversation flowed around all kinds of minor and major worldly issues. On the banquet alone I’m mildly confident of a second date, but stay tuned for updates.
