Kehinde Wiley at the National Gallery

Become transformed as you enter American artist Kehinde Wiley’s highly naturalistic vibrant exhibition. It features beautiful surface level images underpinned by dark social issues.

Exhibited at the National Gallery, it is his first major exhibition in the UK, Wiley is best known for featuring people of colour in the traditional settings of Old Master paintings.

In 2017 he painted Barack Obama, becoming the first Black artist to paint an official portrait of a US President.

The space consists of a mixture of large canvas paintings, and a film presented on six screens. Allowing the audience to be truly immersed in Wileys artistic vision.

His work is meant to resonate with the ‘the theatre of nature’ and how people react and understand the space around them.
