Hoxton Radio School
The Hoxton Radio School Programme is a structured creative media and communication course designed to support students’ personal development, oracy skills and career awareness through professional broadcasting practice.
Delivered by working media professionals, the programme combines industry expertise with educationally structured learning, enabling students to develop confidence, collaboration and communication skills within a real-world creative environment.
Rather than a standalone workshop, the programme operates as an education partnership, supporting schools’ enrichment provision, careers education and personal development objectives.
See here for live examples with Excelsior Academy, Cardinal Pole and Haggerston School
The programme aims to develop confident, articulate learners who can communicate ideas clearly, work collaboratively and engage critically with modern media.
Learning is centered around:
- Oracy and spoken communication
- Collaborative problem solving
- Creative expression and student voice
- Media literacy and responsible content creation
- Awareness of creative industry pathways
Broadcasting is used as the learning medium through which transferable academic and personal skills are developed.
By the end of the programme, students typically demonstrate:
- Increased confidence in speaking and presenting
- Improved listening and interpersonal communication skills
- Greater engagement in collaborative learning
- Understanding of digital media production processes
- Enhanced creativity and self-expression
- Awareness of careers within the creative industries
Students complete a recorded broadcast showcasing their achievement and progression.
Hoxton Radio alumni have progressed into leading media organisations including: BBC Radio 1 • BBC News • Capital • Radio X • Heart FM
This professional environment allows students to experience authentic creative industry practice.
Includes all equipment, professional facilitation and completed student broadcast outcomes, reducing staff planning requirements.
