Breddos Tacos: Churros
Breddos Tacos has done it again. The London taco legends are shaking things up in the sweetest way possible with their newest creation: the Sticky Toffee Churro.
What started out as a secret off-menu treat whispered about by those in the know has finally hit the specials board at Breddos’ Clerkenwell restaurant. But here’s the catch — they’re handmade fresh every day, available in very limited numbers, and served strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. Translation: if you want one, don’t dawdle.
The mastermind behind the dessert is Ian Ciapara, Breddos’ Tijuana-born Head Chef, who recently took a trip back to Mexico and found inspiration at Mexico City’s iconic Molino El Pujol, known for its spiral-style churros. Ian took that idea and gave it a proper British remix. Enter: sticky toffee sauce. Yep, that sticky toffee — rich, buttery, and nostalgic enough to make every Brit smile.
This isn’t your standard churro, either. The dough is enriched with egg, giving it a softer, almost doughnut-like texture that soaks up the sauce perfectly. It’s served on a bed of date compote, which adds a deep, caramel sweetness that ties the whole thing together. Think Mexican street food meets cosy British pudding — the kind of mash-up you didn’t know you needed until now.
As Ian puts it:
“I grew up eating churros in Tijuana, so they’re close to my heart. When we discovered the spiral version in Mexico City, I knew I wanted to create my own take on it. Adding sticky toffee felt like a fun way of paying homage to my new home in the UK, and the date compote brings everything together.”
Before diving into dessert, Breddos fans can warm up with all the hits — Tuna Tostadas with yellow bean and crispy shallots, Tamarind Chicken Wings glazed with pomegranate and sesame, and the ultimate comfort dish, Birria de Res Tacos, slow-braised to perfection with guajillo and ancho chiles.
And of course, there’s no shortage of stellar drinks. Whether you’re a Margarita purist, a Coctel de Café convert (basically a tequila espresso martini), or fancy something spicy like the Limontour with jalapeño tequila, you’re covered.
Bottom line: Breddos’ Sticky Toffee Churro isn’t just dessert — it’s a cultural love story, fried, drizzled, and ready to make your day a whole lot sweeter.
