BLACKPINK: Is this Girl Group Era Slowly Coming to an End?

Four global superstars, five new songs and one big question: how much longer will BLACKPINK want to do this together?

There was a time when “BLACKPINK in your area” sent the internet into meltdown. Jennie, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa became a global pop phenomenon, conquering charts, stadiums and luxury fashion houses. But in 2026, the question is whether group comebacks remain the main event or simply occasional reunions between four increasingly successful solo careers.

After years of waiting, Blinks finally got their reward with Deadline, a five-track EP marking the group’s first release since 2022’s Born Pink. Die-hard fans welcomed their return, but others questioned whether five songs justified such a lengthy absence. After three years of anticipation, shouldn’t there have been more to show for it?

The group also embarked on a world tour, although not every reaction was glowing. While the spectacle impressed many fans, others criticised performances they felt lacked the precision of BLACKPINK at their peak. Questions about lip-syncing and live vocals added further fuel to the online debate.

Solo success, serious money

Away from the group, the members have hardly been idle.

Rosé scored a global smash with APT. alongside Bruno Mars, Lisa expanded her musical ambitions and acting career, Jennie continued developing her solo identity, and Jisoo pursued music and acting.

Then there are the luxury fashion deals. From Chanel and Dior to Bulgari and Celine, the members have become fashion-industry heavyweights. These partnerships can be hugely lucrative, although their individual earnings remain private.

More importantly, their solo careers offer greater creative freedom. Each can explore different sounds, pursue personal projects and build a distinct identity without coordinating four busy schedules.

And why wouldn’t that appeal? Individual ventures can also mean greater control over their earnings, rather than splitting the rewards of group activities.

So, will BLACKPINK return?

Almost certainly, but regular releases may be another matter. Coordinating four independent careers is increasingly complicated, and the group’s commercial appeal doesn’t necessarily mean everyone wants to prioritise it.

Perhaps the future means occasional EPs, blockbuster tours and anniversary reunions, with solo ventures filling the gaps.

For Blinks, that might not be the dream scenario. But after a decade of building an empire together, the members have earned the freedom to choose their own paths.

BLACKPINK may not be finished, but the group could increasingly become a special event rather than a full-time job. And honestly, when you’re already a global superstar, why wouldn’t you want a little more freedom?
