Anthony McCall at Tate Modern

Anthony McCall: Solid Light is coming to Tate Modern this spring to celebrate and look back on the work of British-born, US-based artist, Anthony McCall.

Starting his career in the 70s by being involved with the independent film community, McCall gets his inspiration for his solid light installations from the shaft of light that radiated from projectors.

By deciding to switch the focus and invite the audience to turn towards the projector rather than the screen, he embarked on an artistic journey that is still ongoing: exhibition-goers will be welcomed by his first solid light work Line Describing a Cone, dating all the way back to 1973, and be bid goodbye by his latest work Split-Second Mirror, from 2018.

Anthony McCall: Solid Light will begin at the Tate Modern in The George Economou Gallery on Thursday 27th of June and be on until Sunday 27th of April 2025.
