Alex Solomon: The South African Pop Artist You Should Know
South African singer-songwriter Alex Solomon is gaining attention with a sound that blends pop, pop-rock and indie influences, pairing honest lyrics with polished pop production. Her music balances introspection with confident energy, creating songs that feel personal while remaining widely accessible.

Born and raised in the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, Solomon discovered songwriting during her teenage years. At 16, she began writing songs as an emotional outlet before moving to Cape Town to pursue music more seriously.
Her first breakthrough came when producer DJ Cosher featured her vocals on the track “Kiss Me,” introducing her to a national audience through the Kfm Top 40. Radio host Carl Wastie highlighted her arrival by telling listeners: “Watch out for Alex Solomon, that’s a big, big name.”
Solomon later released her debut single “EX-GIRLFRIEND,” which also premiered on the Kfm Top 40, helping establish her as a new voice in South African pop. Her music soon gained wider recognition through Apple Music and Spotify playlists, alongside coverage from platforms such as Texx and the City and V13.
One of her biggest milestones came with “No Platonic Male Friends,” which reached No.1 on the 5FM Pop Nights Chart for two weeks — a chart closely followed by younger audiences across South Africa.
Her music has also reached international listeners, with several singles hitting No.1 on Australian station ValleyFM. Among her notable releases is “Typical You,” a ballad that revealed a more reflective side to her songwriting.
More recently, Solomon released “Ty Dollar,” a contemporary pop track continuing to build her presence across radio and streaming platforms. With growing radio support and an expanding audience, Alex Solomon is quickly becoming one of the emerging pop voices to watch from South Africa.
