Angel of Bow Afternoon Tea

Drinking in a pub and sipping tea in a parlour are both quintessentially British experiences, yet they rarely meet– until now The Angel of Bow offers a complete afternoon tea experience, and Hoxton Radio got a chance to try it out.

We started off with their Earl Grey and Strawberry teas, which paired perfectly with the sandwiches and sweets.

The finger sandwich offering was almost overwhelming, with plentiful servings of tomato and hummus (our favorite), smoked salmon, turkey and coleslaw, ham, and egg and mayo, all served on fluffy fresh bread.

As far as treats, any sweet tooth would be more than satisfied. The spread ranged from light merengues to tart macarons and fresh strawberry cheesecake, plus moist black forest cake. Of course, scones are included too, served with cream and strawberry jam.

And while the tea and food were spectacular, the atmosphere was the real star of the show. Between the tablescape fit for the Mad Hatter and the whimsical decor in every corner, it felt more like we were dining in the English countryside than in the middle of East London. Plus, the novelty of drinking tea while patrons enjoyed a pint at the next table gave our experience an air of playfulness.

We were greeted with exceptional hospitality and service throughout the entire experience, adding another layer to the charm.

Afternoon tea takes place at The Angel of Bow every Friday and Saturday from 3-5 p.m., and you can book it now at theangelofbow.co.uk.
