Neighbourhood fave, Morito, closes its doors after 10 years

After 10 years on Hackney Road, Morito has sadly closed its doors, marking the end of an era for one of East London’s most loved neighbourhood restaurants.

Run by husband-and-wife team Sam and Sam Clark, Morito quickly became a local favourite thanks to its relaxed atmosphere, consistently excellent food and warm hospitality. Over the years, it built a loyal following among Hackney residents and food lovers from across the capital.

The restaurant was known for its vibrant Mediterranean, North African and Middle Eastern-inspired small plates. Diners flocked there for dishes such as crisp courgette fritters, grilled meats, fresh seafood, colourful salads and the restaurant’s famous sharing plates. It was the sort of place where you could pop in for a quick lunch, settle in for a long evening with friends, or simply enjoy a glass of wine and a few snacks at the bar.

Morito’s reputation extended far beyond the neighbourhood. It was once named one of London’s best restaurants by The Times critic Giles Coren, a testament to the quality and consistency that defined its decade-long run.

While the Hackney Road chapter has come to a close, fans will be pleased to know that the remaining Moro and Morito restaurants in Exmouth Market remain open and continue to serve the food that made them famous.
