Senga Nengudi Whitechapel Gallery
Enter a world of avant-garde sculpture and choreography at Whitechapel Gallery’s Senga Nengudi exhibition. This will be the first ever solo presentation of her work in a public gallery in London.
The exhibition displays Nengudi’s works from 1972-1982, combining unorthodox materials such as nylon tights filled with sand, rubber and foam with choreographed interactions to bring what she calls her “thought experiments” to life.
The artist hails from a close-knit community of Black artists in Los Angeles who helped to facilitate spaces for African American artists to experiment with forms and practices outside of the mainstream.
You can see Senga Nengudi: Performance Works 1972-1982 from 1st April – 14th June 2026 at Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High St London E1 7QX.
