NONDEF: ROSIE from Clerkenwell Kiosk

Coffee keeps a lot of us on the straight & narrow, and the place we get our fix from is sometimes every bit part of the workplace as the office. This is absolutely the case with Clerkenwell Kiosk and the adorable Rosie who runs it, along with a new park-based joint in Haggerston.

She’s one of our gang, I guess paid through coffee rather than the payroll. She’s been missed since we’ve left our Clerkenwell castle to move into our new corp campus and it seemed a shame not to capture her soundtrack.

With 2 minute slices of life grabbed over months, she’s got a unique view us and the ebb & flow of work. Really, she’s a therapist. She remembers names, order and where the conversation was left last time. She still enjoys the old ‘I’m sweet enough’ sugar gag, but tires of ‘you must be cold’ – she is, let’s not dwell on it.

The playlist is a beaut: coffee shop weirdies that you think you could sing along to but probably don’t know the words. There’s frequent mention of peaches. And you get the warming embrace of banter that’s usually limited to the time it takes to brew.

A serious barista, with a community-spirited approach to business, she’s kind of living the dream of us office-worn workers. It’s not easy but she’s made it work, and I reckon you’ll inspire you.

I’m ashamed by how utterly tardy this post is – we recorded the show live weeks ago and my ambition to give it a special facelift for a new approach kept on shuffling to the back of the to-do list. My apologies.
