Francis Bacon: Man and Beast at the RA
An exhibition dedicated to the work of Francis Bacon opens at The Royal Academy this month.
Known for the evocative, raw nature of his paintings, Irish-born Bacon was the son of a horse-breeder who became one of the most influential painters of the last century.
Spanning the artist’s 50-year career, ‘Francis Bacon: Man and Beast’ will focus on his fascination with animals, and how it shaped and distorted his approach to the human body. It also explores how Bacon was mesmerised by animal movement, observing animals in the wild during trips to South Africa and filling his studio with wildlife books.
Highlights include some of his earliest works as well as his last-ever painting, alongside a trio of bullfight paintings which will be displayed together for the first time.
