Niamh Coghlan 5 tips for getting in shape for the summer

We caught up with Nimah Coghlan who is a PT at Base Fit in Shoreditch and she shared 5 top tips for getting in shape this summer. Listen to Nimah in interview on Hoxton Sport below.

1. Eat before you go to party’s!

It’s party season and its very easy to lose sight of your goal when faced with mountains of tasty BBQ and party food. Make sure you go to these events nice and full from a home cooked meal so you’re not tempted to pick. These calories all add up

2. Schedule your weeks workouts in your diary on a Sunday

It’s so easy to get sidetracked and as the week goes on to say yes to different events. Put your weeks workouts in your diary just like any other meeting and make sure you show up.

3. Add some cardio

I hope we all know that weight training has the best on most lasting impact on body fat, so hopefully you’re main training focus is 3/4 weight sessions per week. After this as summer comes along adding in some cardio sessions will really help speed up some results. I suggest a 40 minute walk in the mornings or a quick HIIT session when you can fit it in

4. Hydrate
This is probably the most under rate but the most important tool of them all. As our bodies are so dehydrated we hold on to water to keep any hydration we can which in turn adds to our ‘flufiness’. Drink 3 – 4 litres a day and our bodies will no longer need to hold on to water

5. Eat well, don’t starve!

The temptation can be there to restrict calories to drop a few pounds but this can have adverse and long lasting bad affects on the body. We need fuel to function and grow stronger and by restricting calories your body will only start to eat at muscle than to build muscle. Good, wholesome, fresh diet and lots of it!
